In 2014, Karen Cooper took on an epic challenge – to commit to running every day to raise money for two charities close to her heart; FRANK Water and Emmaus Bristol. By signing up to the K x 365 challenge, Karen had set herself the challenge of running 3km every day.
After a full year of running, and having covered in excess of 1,200km Karen describes her experience, “This has been a rollercoaster of a year for me. Before 1st January I hadn’t run anywhere in 6 months so to start running every day was a huge challenge. On New Year’s Day, during the first run, it hailed! I couldn’t have done it without the support of friends, family and colleagues. They encouraged me to run even at the hardest times – along the roads in the French Alps whilst on a skiing trip, along the beach whilst relaxing in Mexico; early mornings and late nights when fitting it in around everyday life. The Facebook group was definitely a big help. Having to publicise your runs, meant there was no hiding!
It feels a great achievement to have finished 365 days of running and although I can’t commit to another 365, my attitude towards exercise has changed. I will definitely be keeping active and no longer feel like it’s a chore. My fitness has greatly improved and I don’t want to lose that. It’s something that everyone should try.”
